Scripture: Ephesians 5:15-6:9
Speaker: Rev. Lito Villoria
Topics: Ephesians

The “household code” (5:22-6:9) is an application of what it means to live wisely (5:15-17). We must grab every opportunity to promote peace and harmony in our relationships. This can only be possible if we are controlled by the Holy Spirit (5:18). A person controlled by the Spirit manifests characteristics easily displayed in church during Sunday (5:19-21). However, the fruit of the Spirit must also be evident in the believer’s life all week at home and in the workplace. In this sermon we will learn the role of the Holy Spirit for us to surrender completely to Christ 24/7.
I. The Holy Spirit enlightens to discern the will of Christ. (5:15-17)
In daily living, the Holy Spirit plays a vital role in knowing the will of God. He enables the believer to live wisely and understand what pleases the Lord. The believer is commanded to make use of his time wisely.
II. The Holy Spirit enables to yield our will to Christ. (5:18-21)
In church context, the filling of the Spirit is manifested when believers minister to each other through praise and worship songs; sing together in worshipping the Lord; express constant thanksgiving to God the Father; and submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
III. The Holy Spirit empowers to achieve relational harmony. (5:22-6:9)
In individual relationships, the Holy Spirit empowers believers to fulfill their responsibilities at home and in the workplace. He enables the wives, children, and “servants” (employees) to respect authorities out of obedience to Christ. And the husbands, parents, and “masters” (employers) to exercise authority with love, patience, and integrity.
